Animation of the MERSEN Hybrid train

We have been given the opportunity to create a 3D animation for ADNCOM's (A French communication agency) privileged client MERSEN.

For many years, the firm has been a global expert on electrical protection.

As part of its strong presence in the railway switchgear industry, we were able to share our expertise on this project realization with Stéphane NICOLAS, co-director of the agency.

We will see together how we arrived at this result.

One of the challenges of the video was to show the extent of the range offered by the brand with more than 40 products, in an environment synthesizing 3 different vehicles : A train, a tramway and a subway.

The 3D animation allowed us to overcome logistical constraints to elaborate a scenario developing the concept.

In that way, we created a scenario showing the 3 vehicles entering the railway station while merging into a hybrid train with all the characteristics combined.

We presented a selection of trains chosen beforehand :

Then, we stamped and textured them in the MERSEN colors to get the perfect image.

We applied the same process for the creation of the hybrid vehicle which merged the 3 trains together.

Thanks to the client’s feedback, we found the right compromise for the agency.

Adding transparency to the image allowed us to set the devices.

The addition of Motion Design concedes the highlight of product features though short texts and coded pictograms.

Each product found inside the bubbles is the result of volume modeling based on reference photos or by 3D parts delivered by MERSEN's design offices.

Once the models were accepted, we created 40 turntables animations to be set inside the information bubbles.

In order to find the exact location of the devices, we were given documents based on animatics (Non-definitive animations, without texture or light) to help us form our proposals.

We had to find the right reading rhythm for the animation that would satisfy the client.
Then, we proceeded to the implementation of animatics that allowed us to modify the elements swiftly.

Thanks to that, we were able to quickly find the rhythm in the synchronization of the appearance of the elements but also find the right camera angles.

In the end, we applied and inserted the lighting and materials validated beforehand to reach the final result.

A heartfelt thank you for ADNCOM’s trust and Stéphane NICOLAS engagement during this outstanding collaboration.
